In a not so subtle jab at Capcom’s naming conventions for the Street Fighter series, Drinkbox Studios has lovingly dubbed the most recent version of its popular indie game as Guacamelee: Super Turbo Championship Edition.
Why has it been renamed? Well, this is the third time Guacamelee has been released, tying it with Street Fighter III and coming up just two shy of Street Fighter IV. Seeing how the 2D platformer spoofs a lot of fighting game traditions and absurdities, the name only makes sense.
Not straying too far from the Street Fighter re-re-re-releases, Guacamelee is also pile-driving the game with tons of new content. Drinkbox has said that the game is ”coming soon” and new content will expand the story with more boss fights and more levels, and the playable characters will be overloaded with new special moves.
Guacamelee: Super Turbo Championship Edition will bring the game to all previously unavailable platforms: the Xbox 360, Xbox One, Wii U and PlayStation 4. It hasn’t been announced yet, but we’re hoping that the content will be made available on the original PlayStation 3 release and second tier PC release.
We are huge fans of Drinkbox’s smash hit Guacamelee, and you can check out our thoughts in our review.
